Solving the underlying problem
Disease Outbreaks in our homeless communities

Homelessness & Disease

It is common for diseases to outbreak in our homeless populations

*All Info can be found here

Example #1: Hepatitis B

Those experiencing homelessness are more likely to contract Hepatitis B. One study shows that 32.5% of individuals experiencing homelessness and using substances or facing mental health problems, tested positive for the Hepatitis B virus.

Example #2: Aids

Studies show that socioeconomic status and housing stability can have an impact on the treatment that individuals receive when living with AIDS

Homelessness

Homelessness is a nationwide problem present in many states and it is increasing.

Homeless people face many problems beyond the lack of a safe and suitable home. They are often faced with reduced access to private and public services and vital necessities: General rejection or discrimination from other people. Increased risk of suffering violence and abuse.

COVID-19 On The Rise

The disease causes respiratory illness (like the flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever, and in more severe cases, difficulty breathing.

What Do We Do?

Providing Homeless People resources, sanitary items, support via robot

  • Working with homeless shelters to understand the needs of the people
  • Work with shelters to get them testing kits
  • As well as how we will get them vaccinations once they are made
  • Work with homeless shelters to collect data

*Homeless people are underreperesentated in our society, and their is not enough medical data for them

This process goes farther than the COVID-19 Crisis

Continuing this means that our homeless populations will stay healtheir
Health is key, improving homeless populations health will have a direct effect to helping even combat homelessness
It is also extremely important to recognize that their health is key to making sure the community is better off

1. Collect

  • Funds
  • Data
  • Sanitary Items
  • Other Donation

*Data to be collected includes mapping dense homeless populations (can be done using Google Vision API when robot is traveling around city to distribute items to homeless)

2. Distribute

  • Get supplies and funds to homeless shelters

Check out the map to get an example of where homeless shelters are located (in blue) and where dense populations of homeless people are (in red)

3. Deliver items to homeless via Robot

We see robots similar to the ones being used for food delivery being optimized for this kind of project

4. Get feedback

Collecting feedback is important to ensuring our project continues to grow and become better

Collect feedback from the following

  • Homeless Shelters
  • Homeless People
  • Others

5. Improve

Taking the feedback and then turing it into results

6. Repeat

Doing this over and over is the best way to improve the project, and it will continue to serve our communities, and ensure that we are safer even past the COVID-19 Crisis
